Aragones drops resignation hint
Aragones is set to resist overtures to stay on as Spain boss
Luis Aragones is set to resign as Spain's national team coach.
Despite their World Cup exit, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) want Aragones to mastermind their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.
"We are happy with his work and hope he'll continue to lead the team," said RFEF president Angel Maria Villar.
However, Aragones, 67, told Cadena Ser radio station: "I said I would go if we did not finish in the top four and I still think the same."
Aragones has promised to give the RFEF a definite answer in four days - after earlier saying he had no plans to retire.
He shouldered the responsibility for Spain's exit at the hands of France, their first defeat in 26 games since he took charge following the nation's flop at Euro 2004.
In the aftermath of the defeat he said: "It's clear I'm the most guilty that we are leaving so early but I'm going to continue coaching. I don't know where but this is my profession."
Despite continuing their reputation as perennial bridesmaids at major competitions, Aragones' young Spanish side left with hopes high for the future.
Villar added: "He has renovated the team, introduced young players with a lot of enthusiasm and we want him to continue with the project, it hasn't been a failure.
"After we qualified for the World Cup we told him we wanted him to continue after the tournament and we haven't changed our minds."
