Carrick: Madrid move talk
Real candidate in Carrick claim
Real Madrid presidential candidate Lorenzo Sanz has named Michael Carrick as one of five players he expects to sign - should he win election.
Tottenham player Carrick, 24, has been the subject of a failed bid from Manchester United this summer, and should he leave White Hart Lane then Old Trafford seems his likely next destination.
But Sanz, bidding for a second spell in office, now claims his running team have struck a provisional deal with Carrick.
Listing the players who he claims have agreed provisionally to join the Spanish giants, Sanz named Carrick alongside Holland's Khalid Boulahrouz, Italy's Gianluca Zambrotta, Argentinian youngster Fernando Gago and Brazilian Emerson.
He said: "Carrick is the companion of (Frank) Lampard in the centre of England's midfield and has much quality."
Sanz also claimed his staff would resign if the deals could not be realised.
Rival candidates to Sanz have claimed deals are in place to sign, among others, Chelsea's Arjen Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United. Both Chelsea and United have issued firm denials.
