Palermo have announced the imminent arrival of Aimo Diana from Sampdoria and Australian international Mark Bresciano.
The rumours of Diana’s move to Sicily had been rife for some time, but it seems as if the negotiations have finally reached a conclusion.
“The deal has effectively been done,” Sampdoria director general Beppe Marotta told Stadionews. “All that remains are the final details, but Diana can already consider himself a Palermo player. He should put pen to paper on the contracts tomorrow.”
The 28-year-old wide midfielder has been at Sampdoria for three seasons and would’ve played a part in the World Cup had he not required surgery for a persistent groin injury. His other clubs have been Brescia, Verona, Parma and Reggina.
He has scored one goal in 12 international appearances, making his debut in the 1-1 draw with Spain on April 28, 2004.
“Diana is an excellent signing and will certainly be useful to the side,” said Coach Francesco Guidolin. “A team of talented youngsters is in the making and we need a few more arrivals, but so far I am satisfied. Now we are waiting for Bresciano.”
Parma are hoping to cash in on Bresciano’s fine World Cup showing, as the 26-year-old attacking midfielder impressed during Australia’s four games in Germany.
He has been at the Stadio Tardini since 2002, when he became the most expensive ever Australian, moving from Empoli for £4.8m. |
