Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is desperate to stay in the Premiership and has issued a "come and get me" plea to Newcastle
Representatives of the England international have already been in contact with the Magpies to inform them Campbell is keen on a move to Tyneside.
And Glenn Roeder may be keen to take the 31-year-old if he manages to offload French flop Jean-Alain Boumsong.
Monaco have already made one bid to take the defender on loan but asked Newcastle to pay half his £35,000 a week wages, whilst Marseille are also keen.
Ironically, Marseille have also expressed an interest in Campbell, along with Turkish side Fenerbahce and Italian giants Inter Milan.
However, after initally revealing he would be happy to move abroad, Campbell has now decided he wants to stay in England and sees Newcastle as the perfect move, although he could yet end up at Portsmouth if Harry Redknapp firms up his interest.
Magpies chairman Freddy Shephard has admitted they are in the market for more players.
We're working towards more signings," he told the Independent.
"Patience is important in getting the right player or players because the transfer deadline is the last day of August, which is over a month away." |
