Chelsea set for £20m double swoop
Chelsea are set to sign Ashley Cole next week for £16million and will then swoop for Roberto Carlos - as a present for Roman Abramovic's son.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has long been tracking Cole and the Arsenal left-back will finally tie up his move to Stamford Bridge next Wednesday, according to reports.
Cole has agreed a five-year deal with the Blues worth £90,000 a week to finally put an end to the controversial transfer saga.
The 25-year-old was fined £75,000 by the Gunners in January after being "tapped up" by Chelsea and has since gone on to criticise the club's treatment of him in his new book.
He claimed: "Arsenal hung me out to dry, using me as a scapegoat to get back at Chelsea," and said "it changed my view forever on the club I regarded as family."
Now Arsene Wenger appears to finally have given up the battle to keep hold of the England star and may raid Juventus for Lilian Thuram.
Mourinho had said he would only make one more signing this summer but reports suggest he will add a second left-back in the shape of £4million Carlos.
The 33-year-old is the favourite player of Arkady Abramovich, Roman's son and is seen as a big enough name to expand the Blues' global market.
Carlos may face the prospect of the Stamford Bridge bench with Cole set to be handed the number 3 shirt, unless Mourinho decides to operate either Cole or the Brazilian on the left wing.
Current first choice left-back, Asier Del Horno is expected to complete a move to Valencia in the next few days, while Damien Duff looks likely to join London rivals Tottenham.
