Chelsea's John Terry has been named as the new England captain. He takes over from David Beckham who stood down following the World Cup finals.

New England coach Steve McClaren chose to snub Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard which doesn't come as a surprise.

We would have liked to have seen Steven lead England but our worry was if things went wrong on the international scene (which they tend to), the hacks would have taken great joy in stabbing him in the back.

Gerrard has been named vice-captain.
