Maradona steps down from Boca role

Diego Maradona has announced he will leave his role as vice-president of Boca Juniors after Ricardo Lavolpe was apointed the new coach.The Argentina legend said: "I do not have any involvement in the club's decisions any more."
"I will go to the stadium as a Boca supporter. I have some differences with president Mauricio Macri but this is a closed chapter," he told television programme Hablemos de Futbol.
Maradona was influential in bringing Alfio Basile to Boca as boss but he has since taken up a post as coach of Argentina's national team.
Maradona was against the appointment of Lavolpe, the former Mexico coach, as Basile's replacement but Boca's board of directors nevertheless brought him in to fill the vacancy.
"If he wants to do well here, he must be careful about what he changes," Maradona said of Lavolpe.
"The team is okay and the players will say they are playing well. I think Lavolpe is intelligent and I liked Mexico in the World Cup." |
