KUALA LUMPUR: Iranian midfielder Andranik Teymourian has been signed to a two-year contract by Bolton Wanderers and will be eligible to turn out for the English Premier League club after getting his work permit on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old World Cup star joins from Bolton from Iran Pro League side Abo Moslem.
Teymourian was given the green signal by Bolton coach Sam Allardyce in July after the midfielder joined the English side on trial and passed his medical.
But Teymourian couldn’t turn out for Bolton after failing to get a work permit because he had appeared just 11 times for Iran so far when FA regulations state that a player is eligible to join an EPL club only if he has appeared at least 70 per cent in two years for the national team.
“Andranik is a talented player and somebody who I believe will be able to adapt to the tough demands of the Barclays Premiership,” said Sam Allardyce on the official Wanderers website.
"He impressed a lot of people during the World Cup and I am delighted that we have beaten off a lot of competition to get his signature."
Teymourian is the third Asian player to join Bolton after Hidetoshi Nakata of Japan and Omani international goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi and only the second Iranian after Karim Bagheri (Charlton; 2000-01) to join an EPL club.
Due to his AFC Asian Cup 2007 qualifying engagements against Korea Republic (September 2) and Syria (September 6), the earliest date Teymourian is likely to be available for Allardyce is September 9 when Bolton play Watford at home. |
