Nantes coach Le Dizet sacked after Cup defeat
NANTES, France, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Nantes coach Serge Le Dizet was sacked on Wednesday after Tuesday's defeat to Toulouse in the French League Cup sealed a poor start to the season for the club.
Chairman Rudi Roussillon, the chairman of the Ligue 1 club, said on Wednesday that Le Dizet, 42, a player in Nantes championship-winning side in 1995, would be replaced by his assistant George Eo.
'Le Dizet has been replaced by George Eo. The time had come to react and take a decision to bounce back', Roussillon told journalists at the club's training centre.
Nantes are second from bottom in the league standings without a win in six matches and their exit from the League Cup was the final straw for Rousillon.
Eo has been a member of Nantes coaching team since 1987 and Le Dizet's assistant since his appointment in January 2005.
'Eo is a great servant of our club. He is a man of wisdom and experience. He will have full powers,' Roussillon said.
Eo will take charge of the team for the first time in Sunday's home league match against Olympique Marseille. |
