Reds travel to Benfica
Mikael Silvestre has not travelled with the United squad as the Reds face what United No.2 Carlos Queiroz says will be another tough test against Benfica on Tuesday night.
"Individually, Benfica are stronger than last season," Carlos said. "Playing in Benfica’s Estadio de Luz also makes a difference. It has an excellent atmosphere as we know. We need to be on full alert if we want to come back with the right result.”
However, Benfica have stuttered so far this term. They are fifth from bottom in the Portuguese top flight after starting the season with a 3-0 defeat to Boavista, a 1-0 win over Nacional and a 1-1 draw at the weekend against Pacos de Ferreira.
Benfica, who were held to a 0-0 draw by FC Copenhagen in their opening Group F clash, are expected to be without Rui Costa and Nuno Assis due to injury. Coach Fernando Santos has Kostas Katsouranis, Georgios Karagounis or Armando Petit to call on as replacements, while he has been boosted by centre-back Ricardo Rocha's return.
