More trouble for Monaco with League Cup exit

PARIS, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Monaco sank deeper into crisis when they lost on penalties to second division Reims in the second round of the French League Cup on Tuesday.

The Ligue 1 strugglers relieved coach Laszlo Boloni of his duties on Monday, replacing him with his deputy, Laurent Banide.

The move did not help, the principality team putting up another dull display away to Reims.

The match was goalless until a shootout which Reims took 4-3 after France defender Gael Givet and Italian striker Marco Di Vaio both missed for Monaco.

Champions League finalists in 2004, Monaco are second from bottom in Ligue after losing seven matches out of 10.

Holders Nancy reached the quarter-finals with a 2-1 home win over Toulouse.

Nigerian striker Tosin Dosunmu opened the scoring just before halftime in the second-round clash between this season's surprise Ligue 1 packages.

Defender Cedric Lecluse doubled the advantage with eight minutes remaining before midfielder Bryan Bergougnoux pulled one back for Toulouse in the closing stages.

Easterners Nancy, an unheralded team with limited resources, won their first trophy in 28 years when they lifted the League Cup last April.

The club where France's all-time great Michel Platini made his playing debut are third in the Ligue 1 standings, one place above south westerners Toulouse.

Le Mans scored two penalties as they beat visitors Racing Lens 3-1 in another of the night's three all-Ligue 1 ties.

Lille were entertaining Stade Rennes later on Tuesday in the other clash between top flight teams.

Sochaux pleased the home fans with a 5-0 thrashing of second division Dijon featuring two goals by Senegal midfielder Badara Sene.
