Inter suffer Recoba blow Thursday 26 October, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alvaro Recoba will miss the weekend derby with Milan and the Champions League clash away at Spartak Moscow after injuring his calf against Livorno on Wednesday.
The Nerazzurri thrashed the Tuscan minnows 4-1 with a convincing performance, confirming their Serie A leadership with Palermo.
Recoba had put in a decent performance until he came off with an injury to make way for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was one of the goalscorers.
“It’s a curse, I am devastated,” said Recoba after the match at the San Siro. “It’s incredible – I am just a disaster. I slipped and felt a pain in my calf.
“I thought it was just a bruise, but then I realised it was a muscular problem,” added the Uruguayan, who had only just returned to playing last week in the home match with Spartak Moscow, after another long-term injury.
“It’s a real pity because I was feeling in great condition and I wanted to play in the important games against Milan and Spartak.
The Nerazzurri Coach Roberto Mancini had just recently slammed Recoba’s career, stating that he had thrown away 10 years, considering the qualities at his disposal.
The player has never been consistent in his time with the Via Durini outfit, scoring 51 goals in 162 Serie A appearances and mixing some excellent games with a series of disappointing and disheartening performances.
