Reds still want Owen
Sir Alex Ferguson remains hopeful of signing Bayern Munich and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
The 25-year-old is currently recovering from a broken leg, but the United boss insists the Reds are still keen to secure Hargreaves' services after missing out during the summer.
"We are still interested," Sir Alex told reporters in Denmark ahead of United's Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen. "But I can't give any update because we haven't spoken to Bayern Munich recently."
The Reds were thwarted in their attempts to sign the midfielder during the summer transfer window after Bayern refused to agree a deal with United.
Hargreaves publicly stated that he wanted to join the Reds and on two occasions asked the German club to allow him to move to England, but Bayern held firm.
Although the Canadian-born midfielder has again recently expressed his hopes that the deal is not dead, he also insisted his sole immediate aim is to concentrate on getting back to full fitness with his current club.
