Di Biagio accuses Brescia Saturday 4 November, 2006

Gigi Di Biagio won’t be able to play for Ascoli until January due to a contract irregularity and confessed he’s “distraught” at the delay.
The midfielder had put pen to paper this week and expected to make his debut against old club Inter on Sunday afternoon.
However, the Lega Calcio confirmed that due to delays in terminating his contract with Brescia, an agreement reached by mutual consent in June but only ratified on July 5, he won’t be eligible to sign for another side until January 4, 2007.
“I am distraught, I don’t know what to say,” noted the 35-year-old. “I don’t know if my agent made a mistake or if someone at Brescia tried to cheat me.”
The Lega Calcio today insisted there were no bureaucratic delays in the paperwork, so the contract must’ve been filed past the June 30 deadline by Brescia.
“I’d had a few doubts, so we took a closer look at the papers and unfortunately my fears proved to be correct. We did everything by the book, so I can’t understand where the problem came from. I even decided to give up some money I was owed to terminate the contract.”
Now Di Biagio, who has 348 Serie A games under his belt, must decide whether to wait until he can play for Ascoli from January 4 or look for an overseas club immediately.
“We’ve tried every legal avenue and it seems as if there’s no way to get around this issue. I don’t know if I’ll leave Ascoli immediately, I have to think about this,” he concluded.
Di Biagio was all set to start against Inter this weekend and had been assigned the shirt number 13. |
