Reports in Italy are speculating that Marcello Lippi will replace Carlo Ancelotti on the Milan bench next summer.
Ancelotti’s contract with the Via Turati club ends in 2008, but it is alleged that their five-season relationship will come to an end by mutual consent in June.
Lippi is one of the names on the list of possible successors to Ancelotti, who is supposedly looking for a national job ahead of the 2010 World Cup, after the former Juventus boss made it clear that he wants a return to football.
However, Lippi confirmed on Tuesday that he has not received any offers from Italian clubs after taking time off at the end of the World Cup triumph.
Lippi had already replaced Ancelotti in 2001-02 at Juventus, immediately winning the Scudetto and the Italian Super Cup.
Lippi is not the only name on Milan’s shortlist, though, as Luciano Spalletti, Marco Van Basten and Mauro Tassotti have also been paired with the Rossoneri.
The Roma Coach has not yet extended his contract with the capital city outfit which ends in June 2007 and is highly considered by Milan.
If that option were to arise, Ancelotti may end up at Roma in a swap deal as the team holds a special place in the former Giallorossi midfielder’s heart.
Milan President Silvio Berlusconi would ideally like to see a former player return to the club, but Van Basten doesn’t seem ready to quit his Dutch national job.
Tassotti could also be an alternative after his spells as assistant to firstly Cesare Maldini and now Ancelotti.
