Middlesbrough will make a late decision on Stewart Downing, Lee Cattermole and Andrew Taylor.

Chris Riggott (ankle ligaments) and Ugo Ehiogu (Achilles) are unlikely to be risked but Julio Arca is available after a foot problem.

Liverpool are expected to switch Steven Gerrard to central midfield with Mohamed Sissoko sidelined.

With Luis Garcia nursing a muscle injury, Bolo Zenden and Jermaine Pennant may get a chance in midfield.

REDS AWAIT MOMO SURGERY NEWS
Jimmy Rice 16 November 2006
Liverpool are waiting to discover precisely how long Momo Sissoko will be on the sidelines after the Malian underwent surgery.
Initial indications were that the 21-year-old midfielder would be out for three months, though this could change depending on how the operation went.

"Momo had the operation yesterday," Benitez said.

"The doctors said it was very successful, but now we must wait. We know we will be without Momo for some time, but maybe we'll know more in a few days exactly how long it will be."

Liverpool will be without Luis Garcia for the trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday, though Rafael Benitez has no fresh injury worries following the international break.
Garcia, who hasn't played since the visit of Bordeaux on October 18, was described as "almost fit" by his manager.

Both Momo Sissoko and Harry Kewell are expected to be out until the New Year.

Rafa on Gerrard…

If I say I'm going to put Pepe Reina as a centre-forward, people will then come say to me that Pepe is not scoring goals. After five games they'll come back and say Pepe is not scoring. Then I'll agree it was a mistake. But in one year Steven scored 23 goals and nobody asked me about his position. Now everybody is talking about it and all I can do is try to explain about the balance of the team. I want the best for the team. Steven Gerrard played in the centre against Blackburn and afterwards one journalist said to me it was a mistake and asked why he didn't play on the right! When I talk with Stevie he understands that the team comes first.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed he is set to finally be handed
a central midfield role.
Manager Rafael Benitez has deployed Gerrard on the right flank, prompting
reports of a rift between the pair.

Bolo Zenden was preferred in central midfield in the 3-0 defeat at Arsenal,
even with Momo Sissoko out injured.

But Gerrard said ahead of the match at Middlesbrough: "I spoke with Benitez
and he said I would get a lot more time in the middle now Sissoko is out."

Gerrard also figured in the centre in England's 1-1 draw against Holland in
Amsterdam.

He then took the opportunity to stress his preference for the centre rather
than on the right flank, a move by Benitez that has been a source of debate
as Liverpool have struggled in the Premiership.

Gerrard said: "I always enjoy it there in the middle. That's where I feel I
can get the best out of myself.

"The formation worked and the positive thing is we know we can use another
formation now with 4-3-3 as well as 4-4-2.

"We need to build on this performance for the next qualifier."
