英甲週六上演強強大戰，南安普頓做客挑戰Leeds。賽前預測的看點很多，其中一個是兩隊當家射手Beckford和Lambert的直接對話。賽後，果然如Leeds球迷所願，Beckford最終力壓Lambert登上頭版，但有出入的是，這並不是關於場上的表現，而是關於場下的「演出」。
話說比賽進行到第74分鐘，Grayson決定用換人改變一下場上僵持的場面。當場邊舉起換9號的牌子時，看台上的球迷還用熱烈的掌聲歡送他們的頭號射手（Beckford這場表現並不差），但看台氣氛很快因隨後的舉動被改變了，只見Beckford如同蝸牛一般（某球迷形容）速度走向場邊（有球迷說 Howson有向前鼓勵，副隊啊），似乎發洩著對這次換人決定的不滿。這時已經有球迷開始發出噓聲，因為場上的比分還是0-0，他們覺得Beckford 應該快點下場，別拖延時間。本來已經不滿的Beckford，聽見噓聲更火冒三尺，走到場邊時，主帥Grayson想握手示意安慰，Beckford竟然不理睬，徑直就走向更衣室。此時，看台上的球迷也怒了，噓聲越來越大，還高唱」there's only one Simon Grayson"，大肆諷刺Beckford對主教練的不尊重行為。
諷刺的是，Beckford被換下兩分鐘後，Leeds就憑藉Snodgrass的個人表現取得進球，獲得寶貴三分，同時段Millwall還「驚天」地4-4追平Charlton，讓Leeds擴大到4分的領先優勢。
作為Leeds的頭號射手，Beckford在戰術上不可動搖。但這場比賽如此的行為，已經惹怒了不少球迷，還有過激的球迷大罵Beckford一月份快滾蛋。儘管獲如此「待遇」，筆者相信Grayson並不是Wise那種盲目要絕對權威的主教練。如何理智地處理這件事，相信Grayson免不了一番頭痛。

United boss Simon Grayson says he has accepted an apology from striker Jermaine Beckford following Saturday's game against Southampton.
The manager expressed his disappointment after the prolific striker headed straight down the tunnel when substituted during Saturday's win against the Saints, but the pairing resolved the situation after an amicable chat on Monday.
"We had a chat first thing on Monday," said the boss.
"Jermaine explained and apologised for his actions which I fully accept.
"I made it clear that I don't need it to happen again and he's bought into what I've said.
"It's been put to bed now and I expect to see Jermaine in a Leeds shirt on Boxing Day looking to knock the goals in over the Christmas period."
