Citing unnamed sources, the Mirror reported preliminary talks between Leeds and MLSE have already taken place. Leeds chairman Ken Bates would not confirm the discussions occurred.
MLSE president Richard Peddie and chief financial officer Ian Clarke visited England last month and met officials from a number of clubs, including Southampton and Reading.
MLSE owns the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Raptors, American Hockey League team Toronto Marlies and Major League Soccer franchise Toronto FC.

Jon set for new deal
Published Date: 27 May 2008By Phil Hay
Leeds United are set to offer rising star Jonathan Howson a new contract at Elland Road.
United plan to secure the 20-year-old's future by tying him to an extended deal following his prominent contribution to the club's League One season.
Negotiations with Howson's representatives have been delayed by Leeds' involvement in the League One play-offs, but United hope to reach a quick agreement with the midfielder and allay fears that outside interest might tempt him away from Elland Road this summer.
Leeds chairman Ken Bates told the YEP: "We're planning to give Jonny Howson a new contract, and if it hadn't been for the play-offs it's something we would have looked at already.
"Obviously there have been other priorities and we've had to delay discussions slightly, but we'll look to sort it out quickly."
Leeds agreed a three-year deal with Howson in October of last year, but the Morley-born academy product was on the fringes of the first-team squad at the time having made a total of 18 appearances.
Howson, however, has played in all but one of the 20 matches during Gary McAllister's reign as manager – missing only the 2-1 victory over Gillingham on the last day of the regular League One season – and he scored both goals during a thrilling play-off semi-final victory over Carlisle United at Brunton Park on May 15.
The midfielder also completed 90 minutes of Sunday's League One play-off final against Doncaster Rovers, which ended in a 1-0 defeat at Wembley, and he is set to be rewarded for his rapid improvement with a more substantial and lucrative contract at Elland Road.
Howson is one of the players in United's squad who is likely to attract attention from rival clubs during the close season, but Bates reiterated McAllister's claim that he would be under no pressure to sell players during the summer.
Bates, who revealed that Leeds made a small operating profit during the 2007-08 season, said: "We have no intention of selling anyone.
"If players want to leave or decide to leave then we can't necessarily stop them doing that, and that is up to them. But if people come looking for players we want to keep, they'll be told in no uncertain terms to disappear.
"We drew up separate budgets for the Championship and League One, and neither of them relied on selling players. When it comes to transfers, Gary will do what he feels is in the best interests of the club."

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson named an unchanged side for the visit of Millwall as his side looked to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit in the semi-final of the League One Play-Offs.
Elland Road was packed to the rafters for the clash with over 36,000 home fans substantially outnumbered the 860 Millwall fans who had made the trip north.
And the clash got off to a fiery start with Adam Bolder earning himself a booking for a crunching challenge on Robert Snodgrass. Jonny Howson also crunched Jimmy Abdou as both sides signalled their intentions.
Bradley Johnson after the Millwall game
The game had a frenetic opening and Leeds put Millwall under plenty of early pressure, forcing the Lions onto the back foot in numbers.
Snodgrass had the first shot on goal inside the opening 20 minutes, when he tested David Forde with a low drive after some great passing play, involving Howson.
Forde was called into action again to save, firstly, from Beckford and then from Fabian Delph.hey hey
Delph was soon booked after an incident with Gary Alexander, and, just as with the first leg, tensions were clearly high.
On 36 minutes, Grayson was forced into making a change, Neil Kilkenny coming off with injury to be replaced by Andy Robinson.
Leeds had enjoyed the better of the opening period, but Gary Alexander tried his luck for Millwall with a shot from distance that flew over the bar.
But it was United who ended the first half in the ascendancy by putting Millwall under yet more pressure. Another Bolder foul resulted in Snodgrass winning a corner after his free-kick was cleared.
And in the final minute of the half, Robinson curled a free-kick over the bar. Leeds also threatened first in the second period with another Robinson free-kick causing problems.
As Leeds returned the ball into the Millwall box, referee Mark Halsey awarded a penalty for a foul on Sam Sodje, who was wrestled to the floor, giving United the chance to level matters.
But leading goalscorer Beckford's spot-kick was well-saved by Forde before Robinson followed up with a shot over the bar from the tightest of angles.
United were on level terms within moments, though, courtesy of Luciano Becchio. Ben Parker supplied a low cross from the left and Becchio slid the ball home from close range to make it 1-0 on the night and 1-1 on aggregate.
Millwall suffered a further blow on the hour-mark when, as Forde came to punch a ball clear, Millwall defender Zak Whitbread was felled by his goalkeeper's knee with what appeared to be a serious injury. But after a lengthy stoppage, Whitbread was amazingly fit enough to return to the action.
Following the goal it was all Leeds in terms of possession, but when Beckford latched onto a good ball over the top, he was unable to get in a shot on goal.
And on 74 minutes, Millwall struck a killer blow when Jimmy Abdou stabbed the ball home from close range after a David Martin cross. It was the visitors first goal threat of the half and was to prove a killer blow.
Leeds mounted one final push to save the season, and Millwall introduced another central defender to repel the tide during the closing stages, but the visitors were defending well to snub United out.
With two minutes remaining, Bradley Johnson came within a whisker of snatching the goal Leeds craved but his shot was wide of the mark.
Six minutes of stoppage time gave added hope, but Leeds were unable find a way through, and it was Millwall who were celebrating a place at Wembley while United were contemplating a third successive season in League One.

DOUGLAS AND LUCAS SET TO DEPART
Leeds United can confirm that Jonathan Douglas and Dave Lucas will be parting company with the club.
The two players are out of contract on June 30. Lucas was released to allow him to consider any available options to play regular first team football elsewhere. In respect of Douglas, the club and his representatives felt it was going to be exceptionally difficult to agree terms that would be acceptable to both parties.
Leeds United manager Simon Grayson said: "I've said all along that I would evaluate the squad at the end of the season and this is part of that process.
"I am looking to strengthen what we have here and while players will be coming in, departures are also inevitable as we look to prepare in the best manner possible for next season."
Douglas spent four seasons at Elland Road, making 166 appearances after initially joining on a season-long loan from Blackburn before making the move permanent in August 2006.
Lucas joined in August 2007 as understudy to Casper Ankergren and he has made 24 appearances.
Grayson added: "I've spoken with the players, and I have to say that they have both been excellent professionals since I arrived in December.
"Up until last Thursday we didn't know what our league status would be for next season, and I felt it was important that decisions were made as quickly as possible after that to allow us to move forward as a club and to give the players the best possible opportunity.
"I'd like to thank them for their efforts, and everyone at the club wishes them the best of the luck for the future."
