Iceland's Helguson makes Fulham switch
27 June 2005
English premiership outfit Fulham have signed Watford striker Heidar Helguson for 1.7 million euros on a four-year deal.
The Icelandic international forward has signed a four-year contract with the English Premiership side after leaving second-tier club Watford.
Helguson, 27, revealed his determination to earn a place in Chris Coleman's first-team plans after making the move to west London.
He told the club's website: "I enjoyed my time at Watford as I made many good friends there over the years, but when the opportunity came along to return to the Premiership with Fulham it was simply something that I could not turn down.
"I am happy to join the club and am looking forward to working with the management team and hopefully to securing my place in the starting line-up."
A number of clubs have been linked with a move for the former Lillestrom striker, but Fulham manager Chris Coleman won the race to make Helguson his second signing of the season, after recruiting Jaroslav Drobny from Greek side Panionios.
"I am really happy with the additions I have been able to make to the squad so far. I know that Heidar has a great goal-scoring record and has proven that he can play at the highest level internationally and I am looking forward to working with him," Coleman said.

Pasoja boosts Haka hopes
Wednesday, 13 July 2005
Finnish side FC Haka took a step towards setting up a Scandinavian derby when they defeated FC Pyunik 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League first qualifying round encounter in Valkeakoski.
Vålerenga await
Juha Pasoja's solitary goal left the Armenian visitors facing an uphill task if they are to progress to the second qualifying round, where Vålerenga IF, the team who finished second in Norway last year, lie in wait.
First-half strike
Haka, who won the Finnish First Division in 2004 but trail leaders Myllykosken Pallo-47 by six points at the halfway stage of the current campaign, went ahead through 28-year-old defender Pasoja midway through the first half.
Damage limitation
However, last season's runaway Armenian Premier League champions Pyunik managed to limit the damage and will hope to overturn the 1-0 deficit when they stage the second leg next Wednesday.
夏卡第二圈可能會碰上華拉倫加:icon032:

Skullerund aims to spring a surprise
Thursday, 14 July 2005
By Eivind Aarre
Norway coach Tor Ole Skullerund believes that, although his team face a stern task in their bid to reach the semi-finals of the 2004/05 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, the Scandinavian side are still capable of springing a surprise in Northern Ireland.
Brief reign
Skullerund took charge only last year but has already made his mark, first steering Norway to second place behind Austria in qualifying round Group 12, then prevailing in Russia in the Elite round, his charges remaining unbeaten to see off the threat of the mini-tournament hosts, Ukraine and Lithuania and win the section by a point. Skullerund's players must now overcome England, France and first-time qualifiers Armenia to progress from Group B at the finals.
'No better time'
"I feel this tournament couldn't have come at a better time for us," the coach told uefa.com. "Several of our key players have been playing in the first team of their respective clubs and have responded by playing really well. But I don't know if that is good enough to beat France and England, whom I regard among the favourites to win the whole championship."
Youthful exuberance
One of Skullerund's first moves on assuming control was to introduce some younger players, with a significant portion of the squad born in 1987, making them eligible for next year's U19 competition as well. "That move has been a success," Skullerund acknowledged. "There are a number of 18-year-olds in the squad, such as Rosenborg midfielder Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Lyn 's Bjarne Ingebretsen. Both have made their mark in the Tippeliga this year, and should have a bright future."
Familiar formation
All of Norway's teams, from the U17s right up to the seniors, play exactly the same way, with head coach Åge Hareide favouring a 4-2-3-1 formation that has been implemented at every level. "We play like the senior side, but with some variations," Skullerund confirmed. "Like Hareide, I like to play with a big centre-forward. Start striker Jesper Mathisen is my first choice, although he is suspended for the first game against Armenia."
Striking options
Norway have finalised their preparations in the week leading up to the finals, with the squad coming together in Jessheim on 12 July and playing one last warm-up match - against first division Stabæk IF - the following day. Skullerund then had the task of cutting down his preliminary party from 20 players to 18, having said he wished to examine all his options, particularly up front, before making his final decision. "We chose to include some extra forwards in the squad," he said. "We wanted to look closely at our striking situation before choosing who to go for."
Team togetherness
Although England and France look the favourites to seal a semi-final place from Group B, Skullerund believes his side's unity could yet tip the balance in their favour. "I was pleasantly surprised we qualified," he admitted. "The group in Russia was very tough, but I was very impressed with how my players coped, they deserved to go through. The boys are working well together as a team."

Fakta: Thomas Olsson.

Leicester seal deal for Gerrbrand
Leicester have signed defender Patrik Gerrbrand from Swedish club Hammarby for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal and is set to link up with his new team-mates in Norway ahead of Saturday's friendly with Lillestrom.
Manager Craig Levein said: 'We are pleased to finally announce the signing. He's a player we have been chasing since January and while the deal has taken some time to conclude, I'm convinced it will be worthwhile.
'Patrik fits the profile of a new breed of player we believe can help make Leicester City successful.'

Jonson joins Djurgardens from Norwich
STOCKHOLM, July 15 (Reuters) - Norwich City striker Mattias Jonson has signed a 3-1/2-year deal with Swedish championship leaders Djurgarden, the Stockholm-based club said on Friday.
The 31-year-old Jonson, who will join his new club in August, has scored nine goals in 46 games for Sweden and played in all their matches at Euro 2004 in Portugal.
He grabbed the controversial late equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Denmark that sent both teams into the last eight from Group C at Italy's expense.
Last year Jonson moved from Danish Superleague club Brondby to Norwich on a two-year deal after the East Anglian side were promoted to the Premier League.
Norwich were relegated at the end of last season.

Stuttgart sign Tomasson from Milan
BERLIN, July 16 (Reuters) - VfB Stuttgart have signed Denmark striker Jon Dahl Tomasson on a four-year contract from AC Milan, the Bundesliga side said on Saturday.
Stuttgart, who last month sold Germany striker Kevin Kuranyi to Schalke 04 for a reported seven million euros ($8.46 million), did not disclose a fee for 28-year-old Tomasson.
'Jon Dahl Tomasson is a striker with a lot of international experience and someone who proved in Italy what an excellent player he is,' said Stuttgart's new coach Giavanni Trapattoni.
'Stuttgart is the club I was hoping for,' Tomasson, who has also played for Newcastle United and Feyenoord, told the German club's website. 'I'm very happy that the transfer to Stuttgart has been completed.'
