Ajax bring in midfielder Roger
Ajax have signed Spanish midfielder Roger Garcia from Villarreal, to help in
their bid to regain the Eredivisie title in the coming season.
The Dutch giants had been pursuing Tottenham Hotspur's ageing driving force
Edgar Davids, but now look to have settled for the 29-year-old left-footer
instead.
Roger spent spent three years at El Madrigal after moving from Espanyol, but
was predominantly used as a substitute last term.
The Bosman free transfer has experience, having played more than 250 matches
in La Liga since starting out at Barcelona in 1999.
He follows Barca midfielder Gabri in making the move to the Amsterdam ArenA,
as Ajax look to make the most of their upcoming UEFA Champions League
play-offs.
Coach Henk ten Cate, who was a former assistant at Barcelona, has contracted
the Spaniard to a one-year deal in Holland.
Jelen seals Auxerre switch
Auxerre have completed the signing of Poland international Ireneusz Jelen.
The powerful 25-year-old has joined the French outfit from Wisla Plock after
concurring on personal terms for a four-year deal.
It has been reported that Poland coach Pavel Janas was instrumental in the
player's decision as he recommended the club where he previously had a spell
as coach.
Last season saw Jelen have a solid return in front of goal as he netted 12
goals in 23 appearances for Wisla.
Jelen's capture completes a busy few days for Auxerre, who have also
recently signed compatriot Kamil Oziemczuk and Romanian Daniel Niculae.
