Lugano hopes for Atletico move
Uruguay international Diego Lugano is hoping he can secure a transfer to Atletico Madrid.
Reports in Spain have claimed Atletico are exploring a deal for Lugano, who currently plays in Brazil for Sao Paulo.
Over the past 12 months, the centre half has been wanted by Liverpool, Milan, Sevilla and Atletico's city rivals Real.
Though that interest has dried up, Atletico are purportedly keen and Lugano is dreaming of a move to La Liga.
"I know many things about Atletico Madrid," said Lugano. "Atletico is one of the biggest teams in Spain and has a very good squad.
"In addition to that I have always had the dream of playing for a team that is important in Europe and that is what I think about Atletico Madrid.
"I would like very much to have the chance of playing in the Spanish Liga.
"I always watch the European leagues on television, but most of all the Spanish one because my opinion is that the best players of the world are in that league."
Atletico officials are understood to have met with Lugano's agent Juan Figger, although the defender is waiting for confirmation on a possible offer.
He added: "It has been some time since I spoke with Figger, but I suppose that if he has any news for me he will get in touch in the next few days.
"I am very comfortable at Sao Paulo, this is one of the best teams in the world and everyone treats me well here.
"Despite that I am fine at Sao Paulo, nothing can stop the dream that I have of playing in Europe."

Getafe have completed the signing of goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri from Boca Juniors.
The Argentina number one, known as "The Duck," has finally put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal at the Alfonso Perez to end weeks of speculation.
Getafe president Angel Torres initially presented an offer during the World Cup, only to see Boca Juniors reject the bid and Abbondanzieri ask for more time.
Negotiations have advanced in the last few days though, with the keeper now ready to make the move.
"It is the right time for me to go to Europe," Abbondanzieri told his homeland press.
"I spoke with my team-mates at the World Cup and they all advised me to go to La Liga.
"I want to show that I am not just a player for the Argentine league, and Getafe is the right team to demonstrate that."
Bernd Schuster's side have also signed Uruguayan starlet Juan Albin from Nacional on a five-year contract.
The 19-year-old, who can play on the left wing or as a forward, scored 14 goals for the Uruguayan champions last season.
"Albin is one of South American football's brightest prospects," said sports director Santiago Llorente.
"He is a technically gifted and versatile player."
