MILWAUKEE (TICKER) -- The Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday waived forward Marcus Haislip, a former lottery pick, and signed free agent forward Marcus Fizer, who is trying to rebound from offseason knee surgery.
The 6-8 Fizer struggled with the Chicago Bulls last season, averaging 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 16 minutes per game, all career lows. He underwent surgery to repair a torn right ACL on May 19.
Fizer became an unrestricted free agent when he was selected in the expansion draft by the Charlotte Bobcats, who chose not to sign him.
Originally a 2000 first-round pick of Chicago, Fizer averaged 10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in four seasons with the Bulls, mostly as a reserve.
"We are encouraged by what we have seen from Marcus in his workouts," Bucks general manager Larry Harris said. "As he continues his aggressive rehabilitation schedule and completes practices to improve his conditioning, we think he will be a solid contributor on our team."
The Bucks created roster room for Fizer by waiving Haislip and eating most of the $1.6 million left on the final year of his rookie contract. The 13th overall pick in the 2002 draft out of Tennessee, the 6-8 Haislip averaged 3.6 points and 1.5 rebounds in 70 games over the past two seasons.
Haislip did not play in Milwaukee's season opener at Orlando. He was caught in a numbers game at the forward position with Toni Kukoc and Zaza Pachulia already on the bench behind starters Keith Van Horn and Joe Smith.
"Marcus gave us a good effort, but unfortunately the minutes weren't there for him," Harris said.
