Tottenham are poised to complete a sensational double Dutch swoop after having a bid for Andy van der Meyde accepted by Internazionale, having already captured Edgar Davids.
The Italian club have consented to an offer from Spurs' chairman Daniel Levy and talks are at an advanced stage for flying winger van der Meyde.
Davids came through his medical successfully on Thursday, but Tottenham held back on presenting the combative midfielder as they hope to present both players on Friday with van der Meyde already in the country as part of Inter's pre-season tour.
Everton were also interested in the duo and hoped that the lure of UEFA Champions League football would swing things their way, but Martin Jol persuaded Davids to move to White Hart Lane and has used the Dutch connection to land van der Meyde.
Inter chief, Massimo Moratti, confirmed that the club have spoken to both Spurs and Everton about the duo, but negotiations have reportedly been concluded since his announcement.
"We have been dealing with Everton and Tottenham over the futures of Davids and Van der Meyde," Moratti said.
Inter are ready to offload former Ajax star van der Meyde as he has struggled to settle in Italy following his move two summers ago.
The winger was on the verge of joining Monaco earlier this month, but Didier Deschamps pulled the plug on the deal after he decided that the Dutchman was not committed to signing.
Now Van Der Meyde's agent, Chiel Dekker, has revealed that the player wants to kick-start his career at another club with White Hart Lane almost certain to be his next destination.
"At the moment there is nothing official, but Andy wants to move on as he has been at Inter for two years and he wants to get back to how he was at Ajax and play regular football," Dekker added. |
