Lucas Neill has turned down interest from Liverpool and agreed a two-and-a-half year deal with relegation threatened West Ham.
It was widely tipped that Anfield was the likely destination for Blackburn Rovers' Socceroos defender, but on Wednesday night (Thursday AEDT) Neill agreed a lucrative deal to join the Hammers - that will earn him STG50,000 pounds ($A125,486) a week.
West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is desperate to strengthen his team in an effort to stave off relegation and presented an attractive offer to Neill, although reports still indicate that West Ham are still negotiating a fee with Blackburn Rovers - believed to be in the region of STG1.5 million ($A3.76 million).
"Lucas has agreed terms on a two-and-a-half year deal with West Ham and is looking forward to the challenge ahead," Neill's agent Peter Harrison is quoted in The Times.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will no doubt be frustrated at the choice of the Australian International with the Reds boss indicating on Wednesday that any deal for Neill had hit a stumbling block.
Neill arrived at Blackburn in 2001 from Millwall and has made over 200 appearances for the Lancashire club.
