Oddo frozen out at Lazio
Lazio have frozen Massimo Oddo out of the squad for Sunday’s match with Milan after he demanded a transfer to the San Siro.
There were question marks on whether or not the defender would play against the team he has publicly declared he wants to join and they were answered this evening.
“It is a technical decision, he is not injured,” explained Coach Delio Rossi. “This is a player in negotiations to join another side, so it is my duty to think only of those who want to stay here.”
However, the tactician also made it clear that this was not simply because Lazio’s opponents this weekend happen to be Milan.
“I think this is the approach we will adopt until the end of the transfer window. Oddo will not play because he has asked to leave, it has nothing to do with the fact we’re facing Milan.”
This is a distinct change of tune from the statements that President Claudio Lotito released to journalists on Friday, insisting he’d continue to play Oddo while he was still under contract.
It could even be good news for the World Cup winner, though, as it makes it even more likely Lazio will release him this month.
Oddo grew up in the Rossoneri youth system and has been at the Olimpico since 2002, notching up 17 goals in 135 games.
It’s believed that Valon Behrami will take over from Oddo at right-back on Sunday, with Sebastiano Siviglia, Emilson Sanchez Cribari and Luciano Zauri completing the defence.
