Doll the third to go after Heynckes and Magath
Thomas Doll has been sacked as coach of Hamburg, just hours after seeing his side held to a 1-1 draw at home to Energie Cottbus, a result that left them rooted to the bottom of the table.
The 40-year-old was informed of the board's decision to part company with him before he left the stadium at 23:41, and the club are set to make an official announcement on Friday.
The evening had begun promisingly for Doll, who saw his side take a lead in just the third minute through a Juan Pablo Sorin penalty after Igor Mitreski had brought down David Jarolim in the area, though Sergiu Radu equalised just five minutes later for Cottbus.
Doll hailed as one of Germany's finest young managers after guiding Hamburg to third spot and Champions League qualification last season, though a horrendous run of results has now seen them go out of European competition, and left them with just two wins in competitive matches all season.
Though Wednesday marked the end of the January transfer window, and the last opportunities for clubs to bring in players until the summer, it was Doll's sacking, together with those of Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath and Borussia Moenchengladbach coach Jupp Heynckes that dominated the news.
