Gunners quids in for transfers

COMMENT ON THIS STORY
ARSENAL are still strictly second-division when it comes to the big-spenders’ league — despite the £10million deal for striker Eduardo da Silva.
In the three years since Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles won the title without losing a game, the Gunners have actually made a profit in the transfer market.
Boss Wenger has spent just £46m on new signings in that time and recouped £54.5m from the sale of stars such as Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Ashley Cole.
That leaves the Gunners £8.5m in the black — but considerably weaker on the pitch.
For Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have all spent absolute fortunes on strengthening since 2004.
Here is how the top four have invested in that time:

IN: £209.65m.
OUT: £49.3m.
TOTAL SPENDING: + £160.35m.
MAN UNITED
IN: £117.5m.
OUT: £25.5m.
TOTAL SPENDING: + £92m.
LIVERPOOL
IN: £98.1m.
OUT: £19.5m.
TOTAL SPENDING: + £78.6m.
ARSENAL
IN: £46m.
OUT: £54.5m.
