米杜士堡和曼聯就史密夫的轉會達成協議
Boro Clinch £6million Agreement Over Alan Smith
Middlesbrough have reached an agreement with Manchester United over the transfer of Alan Smith.
The Riverside club have sealed a £6million deal, following which United have allowed the player to speak with Boro over personal terms.
In a bid to convince the player, Boro have offered him a very lucrative salary, it is being reported.
It is also understood that United rated him at £8-9m, but chose not to push and instead help him find a new club.
He could now return from the Red Devils' tour of the far east in order to complete his move.
Everton have also been linked with the striker, but look set to lose out after failing to match that offer.
Boro chairman Steve Gibson and coach Gareth Southgate both believe, however, that they have landed the player on the cheap.
Smith will replace Mark Viduka, who joined Newcastle last month.
He has never quite been a regular at Old Trafford, with his lengthy injury lay-off hardly having helped. The former Leeds United striker is keen to move to a club where he can be assured of a starting spot.
