Moratti: "Our transfer plans"

MILAN - Massimo Moratti answered questions from journalists after presiding over the prize-giving ceremony at today's 2007 Karol Wojtyla tournament for high schools at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, won by Parma.
President, at what stage are the negotiations for David Suazo?
"We're fairly well ahead for Suazo, but we're still setting things out. As regards Chivu, we're still in talks with his club (Roma). The player certainly interests us, but we need to see if we will be able to do a deal."
Are the talks for Christian Chivu the most complicated ones?
"We already have class players, and we have no needs at the moment, so we need to see what kind of deal it could be."
Could Inter use the desire to keep David Pizarro, currently on a co-ownership deal, to sign Chivu?
"There are many things we can talk about. Pizarro could be an important player for us because he is a player of a certain level, so we will see how the negotiations start and if we want to close the deal or not."
But is there one factor more than another that could lead to a deal?
"A greater conviction on our part, or if you like, on my part."
Could David Trezeguet be a solution?
"We keep talking about strikers only... The really interesting thing could be a youngster who could be a guarantee for future, but youngsters don't come for free either, so this is another situation we have to look at carefully."
It's true that there's always talk of strikers, and Carlos Alberto Tevez has said he would like to play for Inter. A striker you like?
"Yes. Tevez has great ability and character. He has all the ingredients to do well - or at least I think so - in Italy too. He's among the players we have looked at. He's interesting, but we certainly can't have six hundred strikers... Let's say that we like him, but there's a lot between saying we like him and that we want to buy him."
Could Tevez be a substitute for Alvaro Recoba if he leaves?
"There would already be enough of us if we can strike a deal for Suazo, but this doesn't mean we're not interested in Tezez. If need be, we will see what to do later on."
Does Luis Figo's decision to stay at Inter for another season change your transfer strategies a bit?
"Yes, a bit, because without Figo we would have needed to invest more heavily on the transfer market, but now we can continue to count on a great champion, a serious person, and I'm sure he will do as well next season as he did this year."
Back to youngsters, could the French player Samir Nasri be a solution?
"Nasri might be interesting, but he already has a fair price."
Does the same go for the Brazilian player Alexandre Pato?
"Pato is definitely an interesting player, but I think the whole world is after him."
And Antonio Cassano? Roberto Mancini likes him. Does Massimo Moratti?
"Mancini likes him, and he's an excellent player, but I don't think we are interested in him."
Can Inter still afford to wait for Recoba and Adriano?
"There's not much waiting for Recoba. He has always given what he could... As for Adriano, who went through a crisis, it's easier for us to put him in the condition to return to top form, which he certainly will do."
Genoa and Napoli are back in Serie A. Will the next championship be more entertaining?
"This year was very entertaining for us, and it will be even more entertaining if we collect more points next season...However, I think it will be an interesting tournament. They are all traditional teams, but this doesn't mean it will be any easier. It's often harder with the so-called small clubs because they really want to beat you. In any case, Genoa and Napoli will certainly do everything to measure up to the top flight."
