Figo: My fate in a fortnight

Luis Figo will take two weeks to decide on his future. “If I don’t remain at Inter, then it means I will retire.”
The Portuguese legend had been set to see out his twilight years at Arabian club Al-Ittihad, but the contract he had signed in January proved problematic.
“At first I had thought I’d play a few months in Arabian football, but then some of their promises were not kept,” he explained.
“Instead, there was a great show of affection towards me from the Nerazzurri. I understood that a lot of people care about me in Italy and that, at the time, I had chosen the right club. Now everything is making me rethink my position.”
Figo has been a key figure in the record-breaking Scudetto campaign and Inter have made no secret of their desire to keep him on for at least another season.
“I have taken this week and the next to think and really reflect on the situation,” he said from a charity event in Lisbon.
“I want to understand if I still want to play at the top level or if for me it is already time to stop. We will see what happens.”
There are also reports he will follow good friend Manuel Rui Costa’s lead in returning to Portugal for his final seasons, but the former Sporting Lisbon hero assures that is not the case.
“My image will forever be tied to this club, but at this moment in time it is impossible for me to go back there. In the past it wasn’t possible because I was tied to overseas sides and they never really made me a serious offer.”
