Magpies get a whole lotta Rozy
Defender David Rozehnal became the third arrival on Tyneside during the Allardyce era when the formalities of his £2.9m transfer from Paris St.Germain were completed on Friday.
The 26 year-old Czech international had flown into Newcastle on Sunday evening to undergo a medical and agree personal terms on a four year contract.
The £2.9m fee also has a further £200K payment due after an unspecified number of appearances.
Sam Allardyce said of his new arrival:
“David is a hugely experienced centre-back and has played at a high level in Europe.
“He has played plenty of games for his country, and at 26 he is at the right age to learn and to adjust to playing here in the best league in the world
Hopefully, he can adjust as quickly as possible and we will try to make that easier for him.
“He is a very useful player indeed and a smashing fellow. He speaks English and four other languages.
“He is a very valuable addition to us.”
The right-footer was born in Sternbeck and began his footballing career with Sigma Olomouc in the 1999/00 season.
A move to Belgian side FC Bruges came in 2003, with a league title win two years later.
His next stop was PSG where he won the French Cup in 2006, missing just one league game in his two seasons at the Parc Des Princes.
The first of Rozehnal's 34 international caps came in February 2004 against Italy in Palermo and he appeared in all three of the Czech Republic's games at the World Cup in 2006.
His next scheduled international appearances will come in Euro 2008 qualifiers against Austria (22nd August), San Marino (8th September) and Republic of Ireland (12th September).
