Kitchee's Ip keen to do as the Romans do
Kitchee are to sponsor midfielder Ip Chung-long to go on a year-long training stint with Italian Serie A club Roma.
It will be the second overseas training trip for the 17-year-old after a month-long camp with another Italian side Atalanta in April.
"I enjoyed the time with Atalanta and the trip was an eye-opening experience although it was very brief," said Ip, who made his debut last season in a First Division match against Happy Valley in March.
"I am looking forward to this spell with Roma as it will definitely be more exciting because it's a much longer period. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"My target is to obtain a regular place in the [Kitchee] first team when I come back from Roma."
Kitchee boss Ken Ng Kin said they were keen to offer their young players more overseas training opportunities.
"Ip is a player with potential and we are happy to offer him the opportunity," said Ng at his club's first training session at Football Club yesterday ahead of the new season.
Ng said they were still looking for a striker after the departure of Keith Gumbs. "We are having talks with some players who have European top-class experience and will reveal the name when we have reached a deal with the player," he said.
Meanwhile, striker Wilfed Bamnjo is in hot water after reportedly heading for three months to play in the Indonesian league without the permission of his club, Kitchee.
It is believed that Gerard Ambassa Guy of Happy Valley is also in Indonesia and Valley manager Chan Hung-ping said yesterday they had asked the player to come back for training early next month. |
