Exciting Arsenal news ! Striker Eduardo Da Silva signed from Dinamo Zagreb
By Myles Palmer
Brazilian-born Eduardo da Silva has signed a four-year deal with Arsenal, subject to a medical.
He is 24 and has played 12 times for Croatia, scoring 7 goals, including one against England, that looping header back in October 2006 that made it 2-0.
He was top scorer in Croatia last season with 34 goals.
The fee is undisclosed.
What an original and brilliant signing!!!!!!!
A striker coming completely out of the blue with no trailers, no hints, no rumours or guesses. Of course we know that AW operates very discreetly.Every since Chelsea tried to gazump him when they made a late bid for Jose Antonio Reyes, Arsene doesn't tell anybody who he wants. His targets are so secret he doesn't even tell himself.
Forget Torres at £27million or Martins at £13 million, Eduardo da Silva is a masterstroke !!!!
And he has Champions League experience. He scored for Dinamo Zagreb in a qualifier at the Emirates on August 23.
You wanted a goalscorer, you've got one!
You wanted a fox in the box, this guy Eduardo da Silva is lethal : balanced, fast, skilful, born to score goals, one of the best predators in football today.
What this Arsenal team needed last season was somebody who would make a run for Cesc, make a run for Hleb, make another run for Cesc, make a run for Rosicky, make a run for a longer ball from Gilberto.
Eduardo is that man. He knows when to run and where to run and he's a totally different kind of striker to van Persie or Adebayor or Bendtner. He will score the kind of jack-in-the-box goals that Ljungberg used to score.
Arsenal's off-the-ball play in the box has been generally poor since 1996, apart from Wright, Overmars and Freddie. Eduardo, a compact poacher, will improve that. You don't score 34 goals in the Croatian league by standing still beyond defenders. You score 34 goals by running behind them, between them and in front of them at exactly the right moment.
Last season, when Arsenal were having 27 goal attempts and not scoring one goal, I used to say they should sign Tony Cottee. I'd say, "I don't care if he is 42 years old, Tony Cottee would still score 15 goals a season in this side!"
I'll have to stop saying that now....
