Da Silva could have cost Gunners £16m

Arsenal have signed Croatia striker Eduardo da Silva from Dinamo Zagreb for an undisclosed fee, which it is claimed could be as much as the £16m that the Gunners received for Thierry Henry.

The 24-year-old was born in Brazil, but having moved to Europe at the age of 15, he took Croatian nationality in 2002.

The striker - who has agreed a four-year deal - scored the first competitive goal at Emirates Stadium when the Gunners beat Dinamo during last season's Champions League third qualifying round in late August.

Dinamo's fee for the move, which is subject to a medical and comes a week after France striker Thierry Henry completed his transfer from Arsenal to Barcelona, was not disclosed.

Croatian media put the fee at 24 million euros, exactly the sum Arsenal agreed with Barcelona for their former captain Henry.

Dinamo Zagreb sport director Zoran Mamic told Croatian state radio he could not disclose the figure, but said it was a record offer that the club could not turn down.

'This is the biggest ever transfer in Croatian soccer, inluding the period of the former Yugoslavia,' he said.

Da Silva has scored seven goals in 12 appearances for Croatia - including one against England during the 2-0 Euro 2008 qualifier victory in Zagreb last October.

The deal for da Silva, which is subject to a medical, is the Gunners' first move in the transfer market since the £16million sale of captain Thierry Henry to Barcelona.

Manager Arsene Wenger had been keen to recruit a proven goalscorer, with Newcastle duo Obafemi Martins and Michael Owen reported to be on his shopping list.

However, the Gunners boss is now likely to turn his attentions to defensive cover following the signing of da Silva, who finished the Croatian season as their top scorer with a record 34 goals.

Wenger, who has been recharging his batteries at an Italian health resort ahead of the pre-season schedule, is now expected to step up his interest in Auxerre full-back Bakary Sagna.

Dinamo's president, Mirko Barišić, claimed that the fee was approximately £16.25m, stating that "the transfer is worth €24m from the money Arsenal got after selling Henry to Barcelona", though this has been widely dismissed as a mis-translation with the President only suggesting he was worth the money Henry moved for. Fees ranging from £6m to £8m have been cited, with the BBC claiming the fee was approximately £7.5m.

　　新浪體育訊　溫格簽下達席爾瓦出人意料，但是仔細分析又是順理成章，亨利走後阿森納必須有新前鋒加入才能保持鋒線平衡，而以溫格的習慣和槍手的財力，跟國米、皇馬、曼聯等豪門搶奪特維斯、阿內爾卡等人不切合實際，因此年齡身價和數據都適中的克羅地亞人成了槍手新丁。現在球迷關心的問題是，下一個新槍手是誰？達席爾瓦的恩師、薩格勒布迪納摩主帥布蘭科-伊萬科維奇洩漏了一個秘密，溫格成功帶走達席爾瓦之後還盯上了他的隊友伍科耶維奇。

　　伊萬科維奇說：「溫格跟我談了很多有關伍科耶維奇的情況。他甚至能準確告訴我伍耶科維奇在一場比賽裡跑了多少英里。」毫無疑問，溫格或者是他的眼線不久前觀看了薩格勒布迪納摩和維也納快速隊的友誼賽。「溫格說出了球員的身高，體重，甚至是頭髮顏色，我很驚訝。」

　　溫格一向很講究效率，因此他能花這麼多精力瞭解一名球員，說明伍耶科維奇已經在教授心裡佔據了一定位置。據悉司職前衛的伍耶科維奇身價在500 萬左右，符合阿森納的「開銷範圍」，不過他能打動溫格最重要的一點是遠射能力強，06年歐冠資格賽他的遠距離抽射將球隊送入第三輪也就是阿森納的面前，儘管迪納摩最終沒能闖進小組賽，但是伍耶科維奇已經在溫格面前完成了首演。

　　從阿森納上賽季聯賽進球分佈看，前鋒線儘管長期受傷，但范佩西(11球)、亨利(10球)和阿德巴約(8球)的進球總數還算及格。進攻問題反應在中場，法佈雷加斯、羅西基和赫萊布三個進攻型前衛加起來只有8球，甚至不及後腰吉爾伯托(9球)。相比
曼聯，C 羅17球，斯科爾斯6球，吉格斯4球，朴智星5球，奧謝、弗萊徹、卡里克都是3球以上，前衛線攻擊力不在一個等級上。前兩個賽季切爾西奪冠的關鍵力量也是來自中場，以蘭帕德為首，羅本、喬科爾輔助的中場殺手們多點開花，讓對手們膽寒。溫格補上前鋒空缺後立刻轉向中場，教授的計劃和意圖很明顯。

Croatia striker Eduardo da Silva completes Arsenal move

Croatian international striker Eduardo Da Silva has finalised the terms of his transfer to Arsenal from Dinamo Zagreb on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee, pending the receipt of a work permit.

Da Silva (24) was born in Brazil but moved to Croatia at the age of 15 and took Croatian nationality in 2002. The striker scored the first goal in European competition at Emirates Stadium when Arsenal beat Dinamo Zagreb 5-1 on aggregate in last season’s UEFA Champions League Third Qualifying Round.

Eduardo has made 12 appearances for the Croatian national team, scoring seven goals, including the first in their 2-0 Euro 2008 Qualifier victory over England in October 2006.

During his time with Dinamo Zagreb, Da Silva scored 73 goals in 104 appearances, won the Croatian League title twice (2006 and 2007) and the Croatian Cup twice (2004 and 2007). He was voted Croatian Player of the Year in 2004 and 2006, and was the Croatian League’s top scorer in both 2006 and 2007.

Manager Arsène Wenger said: "We are delighted to have signed Eduardo Da Silva. He has great qualities and will integrate very well into our style of football. He is a very good finisher and although he is predominantly a striker, he is a very adaptable player.

"I have known about him for a while but his performances against us in last year’s Champions League really showed what a dangerous player he is. Da Silva is a pacy, intelligent player. Also, he is hardworking and has a very good team ethic to his game.

"Eduardo will be a great asset for us and we are all looking forward to him joining up with us."

Da Silva added: "I am so happy and proud to be joining Arsenal Football Club. Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world with many great players and I am looking forward to helping my new club challenge for trophies."

Eduardo will wear the No 9 shirt and will join up shortly with his new team-mates for pre-season training.
