Atletico Steal Reyes From Madrid
Atletico Madrid have handed us a last minute surprise to pip local rivals Real Madrid to Jose Antonio Reyes.
Real Madrid seemed to have reached a 9.2 million euro agreement with Arsenal, and just as the deal was being formalised, city rivals Atletico have jumped in with a superior offer.
Los Colchoneros continue to hunt for another winger after Simao's arrival and Pertov's departure, and have decided to dish out 12 million euros, an offer that has been accepted by Arsenal.
The deal is done, and signing is said to be completed in the coming hours barring an unlikely response from Real Madrid.
Atleti are taking this signing as the cherry on the top of a very delicious summer cake, particularly as this one comes at the cost of their fiercest rivals.
The Vicente Calderon club have now become the highest spenders in Spain this summer by some distance, the 79 million beating Barcelona's 65.
Reyes, for his part, is happy to move to Atletico, having clarified that all he wants is to play in Spain. He will receive around 70,000 euros a week (around 3.6 million a year), and will pen a four year deal.
