Arsenal forward Robin van Persie has described former team-mate Freddie Ljungberg's recent criticism of the Gunners as 'a bit weak'.

Ljungberg accused Arsenal of lacking ambition in the wake of his move to West Ham, citing the departure of Thierry Henry. And Dutchman Van Persie admits his comments were not well received in the Emirates Stadium dressing room.

'If you play nine years at a club like Arsenal you can say some nice words,' he told the News of the World.

'If you're coming up with excuses about Thierry's departure and about promises from the club it's a bit weak.

'I was disappointed and I know a few others were as well. He had a fantastic period, he was once the best player in England, so come on and say some nice things for this club, which is fantastic.'

Bruce still in for Djourou
Birmingham chasing Arsenal defender

Steve Bruce is still trying to push through a deal for Arsenal youngster Johan Djourou.

The Birmingham City boss has been active in the transfer market over the summer and could soon take his recruitment drive into double figures.

Though Hossam Ghaly's move to St Andrews has collapsed, Mido's switch from Tottenham Hotspur has been revived.

And Arsenal defender Djourou could also join Blues after team-mate Mathieu Flamini opted to stay at Emirates Stadium.

Bruce admits he has not finished his spending spree, revealing any deal for Mido would not be the last before the close of the transfer window.

"That will not be the end of things," said Bruce in response to the Mido deal.

"I'm still possibly in for Djourou. It's a possibility still.

"It's getting near the start of the season, but if you remember this time last year we got our three best signings right before the big kick-off in the three Arsenal boys Nicklas Bendtner, Fabrice Muamba and Sebastian Larsson.

"We are pleased with what we have done and brought in. Rest assured, we haven't finished yet."

Wenger hands captain's armband to Gallas

Arsène Wenger has confirmed that William Gallas will captain Arsenal during the coming season.

The centre back, who joined from Chelsea less than a year ago, will be supported by vice-captains Gilberto and Kolo Toure on the pitch while Jens Lehmann will have a role off it.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online on Thursday lunchtime the Arsenal manager outlined the reason for the change. Wenger is in charge of a very young squad this term so he needs to use every scrap of experience.

“[The captain] will be William Gallas,” he said. “There will also be two vice-captains, Kolo Toure and Gilberto.

“I feel centre back is always the best position to lead on the pitch and it is Gallas who has more experience at the back. But Gilberto has always been a great captain and Kolo Toure has a stature too.

“Aswell I made a decision that I want all those experienced players, along with Jens Lehmann, to be involved off the pitch. Players like Jens and Gilberto can play the role of a club captain. They can have a very strong impact mentally on the team. I want them to take on that responsibility.”

上年有段時間基治受傷,先要佢打閘姐.

辛達路斯主力打盃賽囉,聯賽盃足總盃應該有得打正選既.

我驚盃賽決賽前就比辛德路斯打, 但到左決賽正選要被逼出番加拿斯 / 托尼, 咁樣仲HI HI

應該唔會既,上年聯賽盃一直用班新仔打,決賽都繼續用番佢地.

Johan Djourou joins Birmingham City on loan
Defender Johan Djourou has joined Birmingham City on loan until January 2008.

Djourou (20) made his Arsenal debut in the League Cup win over Manchester City in October 2004 and first featured in the Premier League at the age of 18, in the 7-0  victory over Middlesbrough at Highbury in January 2006.

Johan then ended that season representing Switzerland in the World Cup in Germany, impressing as one of the youngest players on show.

Johan, who joined the Club from Swiss club Etoile Carouge in summer 2003, made a total of 30 first-team appearances last season, featuring in all four major competitions.

Everyone at Arsenal would like to wish Johan the best of luck for his spell with Birmingham City.
