Valencia's Saturday evening went from bad to worse, their 2-1 home defeat to Espanyol being followed up by the news that David Villa will miss both club and country action due to a 3-week injury layoff...
David Villa (pictured) will miss both Spain's clash with Denmark and Valencia's matchday 8 meeting with Deportivo La Coruna after spraining his ankle against Espanyol.
The star striker had to leave the pitch just 19 minutes into last night's 2-1 home defeat due to Espanyol and, following examination from the club's medical staff, will spend three weeks on the sidelines.
The Spain international, then, will miss Spain's clash with Denmark in Aarhus next Saturday, as well as the following week's visit to A Coruna to meet Deportivo.
There's a chance that he'll recover for Round 9's vital clash against Sevilla in Andalucia, but this remains to be seen.
Villa has netted two Liga goals thus far in the campaign, as well as scoring once in each of his side's two Champions League group stages.
Club coach Quique Sanchez Flores must thus select from the likes of Fernando Morientes, Nikola Zigic, Javier Arizmendi and the versatile international pairing of Miguel Angel Angulo and David Silva for the two striking spots.
For the national side, boss Luis Aragones could choose from Luis Garcia, Soldado, Fernando Torres and even some Valencia players, while Raul of Real Madrid is an outside bet for a shock return to the La Furia Roja.
