Stephon Marbury misses Knicks' game against Pistons because of sore left ankle
January 13, 2008
NEW YORK (AP) -- Point guard Stephon Marbury missed the Knicks' game against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night because of a sore left ankle.
The Knicks don't believe there was a specific play where Marbury was hurt. He scored 13 points Friday night in a loss to Toronto, then didn't practice Saturday.
Marbury has missed 12 games, most coming after his father died on Dec. 2. He is averaging 13.9 points, six below his career average coming into the season.
He also missed a game at Phoenix in November after leaving the team following a clash with coach Isiah Thomas over his spot in the starting lineup. The Knicks fined Marbury one game's salary, which he is appealing.
Fred Jones replaced Marbury in the starting lineup against Detroit.
Marbury unhappy with passive role in offense

Stephon Marbury revealed Friday night that he is struggling to adjust to his new role in Isiah Thomas' offense, suggesting that for the money the New York Knicks are giving him, they should expect more out of him.
"I didn't get paid the money I got paid to do what I'm doing now," said Marbury, who is the NBA's fourth-highest paid player at $20.1 million. "I got paid to be a scoring guard. ... Now I'm playing more of a passive role."
Marbury finished with 13points, eight assists and four rebounds in last night's 99-90 loss to Toronto. Thomas has designed the offense to feature Eddy Curry, Zach Randolph and Jamal Crawford.
