This match was halted after just eight minutes when Atalanta fans threatened to riot if play continued despite the death earlier today of a Lazio supporter.
There were brawls outside the stadium before kick-off after news came through that a Lazio fan had been accidentally killed by a police officer's bullet. The tension inside the arena was sky-high, as both sets of supporters repeatedly urged the players to leave the pitch and call off the game, going so far as to throw objects on to the field and try to smash down the plexiglass dividers. Atalanta players appealed to their fans to stop, but they were determined to stop play at all costs.
Inevitably play was halted after eight minutes and when negotiations between Atalanta captain Cristiano Doni and the chief Ultras failed to find a solution, the referee led the two teams off the pitch.
