Inter waver over Maniche

Inter have put their bid for Portuguese star Maniche on ice as they assess the fitness of their current midfielders.
Reports in the Spanish Press yesterday stated that the Nerazzurri had agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid for the 30-year-old and that the former Chelsea man was ready for a medical.
However, after a meting between Roberto Mancini, Marco Branca and Lele Oriali, it seems that Inter have decided to take a week off to review the condition of Dejan Stankovic and Patrick Vieira.
With Esteban Cambiasso and Luis Jimenez on commanding form prior to the Christmas break, the Italian champions may be reluctant to pay the £2m fee to loan a player they may not need.
The Beneamata are also said to be concerned by Atletico’s proposed clause that they must sign Maniche permanently if they retain the Scudetto.
Maniche is keen to leave Los Rojiblancos after being left out of the squad for the fifth consecutive game – a Copa Del Rey clash against Valladolid.
However, the fiery playmaker is looking to play his way into Portugal’s Euro 2008 squad and doesn’t want to sit on the San Siro bench.
Inter are expected to clarify their position at the end of next week, but it now looks less likely that Maniche will play in Serie A this season.
