9:09 OK, lets go through the big rumors. iPhone 2.0? I say no. A lot of people forget that this time a year ago the iPhone wasn't even announced let alone shipping! I think the predictions for some sort of light form factor Macbook portable are spot on. I've been clamouring for this for a long time and it just makes sense for Apple to release a high-margain piece of hardware. What about the whole Air thing? I actually thing it is a theme that will tie a bunch of things togeather. Air=A super light-weight portable. Air=The ability to order things over the air using an iPhone (with Starbucks being the first to roll this out. I also think this could be the beginning of the iTunes account working as some sort of Paypal account. Pay for that double-Latte from your iTunes account!

Air=downloadable video delivered throughout the house.

924: iPhone now has Maps with location. Webclips. Can customize the home screens. You can SMS multiple people at once. Videos on iPhone now has Chapters support for videos. Steve is now demoing the locate feature. Now showing how you can send multiple SMS's to more than one person at once, pretty cool feature. Now showing webclips. Going to Google "because they have a lot of cool apps that work with the iPhone". There is now an add to homescreen which allows you to now add a webpage link to the home screen! Sweet. Now loading the NYtimes. Webclips sort of work like dashboard clips, so not only are they bookmkars to a website, but to a particular area within a website. So Steve is showing you how you can make a webclip of the technology section of the NYtimes. Now showing how you can literally drag and drop icons around and organize them the way you want.

9:31 How does the iPhone map piece work? With a company called Skyhook wireless that maps hotspots throughout the US and Canada. So Apple then combines that data with what Google does from triangulating cell towers and combines the information.
All the iPhone stuff will be available today as a free iPhone update. Not sure what all those hackers are gonna do out there!

Now going over the iPod Touch. They have decided to add Mail, Maps, Stocks, Notes and Weather. This is kind of a no brainer, I mean why wasn't in there in the beginning?! It will be on new iPod touchs. Get ready to rant folks, current users have to pay $20 to upgrade!!! This will be the new wtf Apple rant of the next few weeks.

9:23 PT: But everybody's really excited for the Software Development Kit. Still coming in late February. "But we wanted to give everyone something today too." Great new features: Maps with location (I think someone may have yelled "bingo!"); Webclips; customized home screens; SMS multiple people at once; videos now support chapters, subtitles, languages; music now supports lyrics.

9:31 PT: How do we accomplish this? There's no GPS for maps. They're working with Google and one called Skyhook Wireless. They've driven the US and Canada and mapped Wi-Fi hotspots: 23 million Wi-Fi hot spots in their database. You can pick up the beacons from the hotspots even if you're not connected. "Isn't that cool? It's really cool." Google is triangulating of the cell network, so they're using both. "And it works pretty doggone well."

9:32 PT: We're recapping the features: home screen reorganization, new buttons for chapter navigation, using multiple language tracks and subtitles (interesting, since as far as I know, the content in the iTunes Store doesn't support that...yet). All of this is available as a free software update for every iPhone user. "The iPhone is not standing still."

So, people with hacked iPhones... is this enough to make you abandon your hacked version and jump to the official release? This is the substantial iPhone software release we've been waiting for.

New MacBook

10:19 PT: Other features: there's a MagSafe connector on the other side. A smaller 45W power adapter. Flip down door: USB 2, Micro-DVI, and headphone jack. They've built in 802.11n along with Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. (There's no Ethernet jack from what I can see). "The MacBook air was built to be a wireless machine." No internal optical drive, but you can buy a $99 USB2 add-on drive. "But we don't think most people will miss it."

10:20 PT: What do we do with optical drive? Movies, install software, backups, burn music CDs. Here's why we don't need to do that: wirelessly rental movies, most of us have iPods instead of CDs, for backups Time Machine and Time Capsule to wirelessly backup. So what about installing software? Going to do that wirelessly too. New feature built into MacBook Air OS called Remote Disk, under Devices. It'll show you all the Macs and PCs in the area with special software (Macs or Windows machines). You can ask to borrow a machine's optical drive. Once they've accepted, you can see what they're disc is. A PC can even read a Mac disc with this special software. Click on it, and it's just like having a local optical drive. "That's how we're going to install stuff. Wirelessly." Don't think users will miss optical drive.

NO CD-ROM

10:41 PT: "So, we can't wait for you to get your hands on these new products. They're out there in the booth. Thank you so much for coming, and we look forward to a very innovative 2008." And Steve Jobs leaves the stage to the sounds of U2's "Pride (In the Name of Love)." Hey, Steve, I've got that on my iPod too.
