Vince Carter had to sit out the Nets' 106-87 loss to the Pistons Friday night because of a sprained right ankle that may need surgery.

If Carter does have to undergo an operation, it won't happen until the offseason, which likely will arrive a lot sooner than the Nets had been anticipating.

Carter originally hurt his ankle when he landed on Paul Pierce's foot after dunking at the Meadowlands back in November. He missed five games immediately after that and hasn't been 100% healthy since.

Nets president Rod Thorn admitted before the game that Carter eventually may have to undergo an arthroscopic procedure to have "loose bodies" removed from the ankle. "His ankle's real sore," Thorn said.

Wade, the 2006 NBA finals MVP, and several other injured Heat players will work the phones at halftime of Miami's game against the New Orleans Hornets, fielding calls from people looking to buy season tickets.

Other injured Heat players scheduled to take part in the event include Udonis Haslem, Shawn Marion, Alonzo Mourning, Marcus Banks, Jason Williams and Dorell Wright, along with anyone else on the Miami roster who's on the inactive list Wednesday.
