Real Madrid will complete the signing of Rafael Van der Vaart next week after negotiations are concluded following their game with Hamburg in London, according to Marca.

The Spanish giants have lodged a new bid of €10m and expect that to be accepted alowing talks to begin between the clubs and the player's representative.

With Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival now more and more unlikely, Madrid have turned their attentions to other players after Bernd Schuster pleaded with the club's hierarchy to add to his squad.

Van der Vaart has been on the club's list for months, but with all the focus placed on signing just one player Los Merengues are now having to push on with Plan B.

Hamburg meet Real Madrid in the Emirates Cup at Arsenal's stadium on Saturday and then play Juventus on Sunday, giving Van der Vaart two chances to showcase his talent to Schuster.

Ramón Calderón has backed down over his plans not to sign anyone should Ronaldo not be available and relented for the sake of the coached who asked for some new faces to freshen things up.

According to Marca, Hamburg have decided to sell and use the money to find a replacement and after turning down just €6m last week, will say yes to the €10m now on the table.

Schuster is believed to have asked sporting director, Predrag Mijatovic, on July 10 to do a deal with Hamburg after initial contact was made and a deal looked set to be done then.

Van der Vaart's arrival could see two or three new players arrive at the Bernabéu which would certainly mean that any bid for Ronaldo had been postponed this year.

Celta Vigo, Real Sociedad and Levante are among six clubs that could be automatically relegated to a lower division unless they can sort out their debts by the end of this week.

The Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) met with a commission from the Spanish Football League (LFP) in a bid to try and resolve the problems that now exist.

Players have been unpaid and companies are owed money by the clubs which forced the two bodies to hold meetings which helped resolve the positions of Granada 74, Alavés and Valladolid.

Now though, Celta, Real Sociedad, Levante, Elche, Hércules and Granada 74 are all to be asked to prove that they have the capability to continue operating normally while controlling their debts.

If not, then they will be automatically relegated by at least one division, a move that could see any of the clubs struggle to turn their situations around.

Levante's players went unpaid for months last season and were talked out of going on strike on various occasions before an agreement was reached to ease the problem.

Los Granotes are the worst off with debts of around €17m, according to Marca, while Real Sociedad are €2.8m in the red and Xerez are €2m away from breaking even.

So bad has the situation become at Xerez that the president, Joaquín Morales, has seen the stadium, his son's business and his car attacked by disgruntled fans who are afraid the club will go under.

Before the first round of meetings between the LFP and the AFE, six first division teams, 16 sides from the second tier and an incredible 91 clubs from la Segunda B and la Tercera were all called upon to sort out their debts.

Cristiano Ronaldo has sensationally told Spanish newspaper 'AS' that he will be joining Real Madrid, and will next week travel to Manchester to notify Sir Alex Ferguson that he is leaving the English and European Champions.

Real Madrid have been on red alert ever since the Portuguese international spoke of his ambition to join them. Madrid President Ramon Calderon has even boasted of how he would splash out €100m on the United man, only for the English club to refute all offers and shackle the player.

It now seems as if the English club has no choice but to sell, as Ronaldo has issued an ultimatum as he attempts to cut and run from Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Ronaldo is currently in Portugal where he is recovering from injury but he admits that he will return to England next week to confront his club and tell them that he is joining Real.

"Everything is fine. Next week I will return to England and tell them [Manchester United] that my only desire is to play for Real Madrid and that I will not negotiate," Ronaldo told AS.

According to reports in Spain, the winger will hold a meeting next Tuesday with Ferguson and the club's owners to tell them that he has had enough.

It's not what United fans want to hear but it seems as if the Ronaldo saga is finally coming to an end and no doubt Calderon will be dancing to the tune of Ronaldo's words.

Real Madrid have signed Dutch international midfielder Rafael van der Vaart from Hamburg for nine million euros (£7 million), according to radio station Cadena Ser.

Under the deal Hamburg will also get a bonus which will vary depending on the performance of the 25-year-old midfielder, whose mother is Spanish, the station added.

Real's German coach Bernd Schuster has long been a fan of the player, but Hamburg were reluctant to let their chief playmaker and captain leave as they continued their quest for a Champions League berth.

Last week Hamburg boss Dietmar Beiersdorfer said the German side had rejected an offer of seven million euros for the Dutchman who has made no secret of his desire to play for a major European club.

But Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon said in an interview earlier in the week that the Spanish side was close to signing the player.

"He is a player that Schuster and the coaching staff like a lot and the deal is close. We are waiting to reach a definitive agreement with Hamburg, but it shouldn't be difficult," he told AS.

Cadena Ser said the player would be officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Monday.

Van der Vaart has publicly stated he is happy to play another season at the north German club.
