Bouma Update
Martin O'Neill this evening confirmed the news that Wilfred Bouma has dislocated his right ankle, rather than sustained a break.

The Dutch international was carried off just 15 minutes into the Intertoto Cup victory against Danish side Odense BK with what initially looked like a horrific break.

Bouma still faces a spell on the sidelines but O'Neill told www.avfc.co.uk: "The doctor is back from the hospital and says it's a dislocation. Thankfully the skin isn't broken, which is really good news. They've re-set it and he's now in plaster.

"It's obviously a serious injury to a player who's been playing exceptionally well - he had a great, great season last year and he will be missed.

"The players are going to visit him tonight and we wish him all the very best and the injury is a big blow to us."

Newcastle midfielder Joy Barton has been released from Strangeways prison in Manchester.

The England international had served 74 days of his six-month sentence for assaulting a teenager in Liverpool city centre in December.

He pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him and was jailed by Liverpool Crown Court on 20th May.

He made no comment to reporters as he was driven away following his release.

Magpies boss Kevin Keegan has pledged to give the controversial midfielder a second chance at St James' Park, refusing to bow to the demands of those who have called for the 25-year-old to be sacked.

He will be lacking match fitness after missing much of the pre-season preparations, but would be expected to be back in action in the near future.
