Italy: No replacements called Sunday 7 September, 2008

Marcello Lippi will not call any replacements for Fabio Grosso and Alessandro Gamberini for the game against Georgia.

Both defenders sustained serious injuries during the opening 15 minutes of last night’s 2-1 win in Cyprus.


Grosso has been diagnosed with two fractured ribs and could be out of action for around a month, while Gamberini dislocated his right shoulder.


Lippi was expected to call two replacements ahead of Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier with Georgia at the Stadio Friuli.


However, he surprisingly announced that he did not intend to bring in reinforcements for an area of the team already without the injured Giorgio Chiellini.


It is a particular concern, as the defence seemed shaky in Cyprus with Andrea Barzagli and Marco Cassetti stepping in to replace the injured players.


The Nazionale has flown back to the peninsula and will take part in a training session this afternoon at the Gradisca d’Isonzo ground.

加圖索受傷的方式非常離奇：在意大利對塞浦路斯的比賽後，裡皮安排了一場本場沒有首發上場的球員與青年隊的友誼賽，結果加圖索在這場普通的教學比賽中表現欲過強，跌到了場邊放置替補席的溝裡，導致頭部和左手受傷，加圖索當即被送至醫院進行了X光照片檢查，確診他的左手和左手腕多處骨折，他目前已經在接受手術。

Lippi turns to Nocerino Monday 8 September, 2008

Palermo midfielder Antonio Nocerino has been called into the Azzurri squad to replace the injured Gennaro Gattuso.

Gattuso suffered a freak injury yesterday when he fell into the dug-out during a friendly match against a team of unemployed players.

The Milan ace has undergone surgery for broken bones in his wrist and will now be out of action for around a month.

With Italy facing Georgia on Wednesday evening, Marcello Lippi needed to find a replacement and has opted for former Under-21 captain Nocerino.

The 23-year-old, who left Juventus for Palermo this summer, made his senior international debut in a friendly against South Africa in October 2007 but hasn't been called by the Azzurri since.

Nocerino will join his teammates in their retreat at Gradisca d'Isonzo later this morning.

Cagliari line up Lupatelli         
Monday 8 September, 2008
Cagliari have agreed a deal to bring free agent goalkeeper Cristiano Lupatelli to Sardinia.

The 30-year-old's contract at Fiorentina expired this summer, leaving him to search for a new club.

Having played just 13 games in the last two seasons, spent on loan at Palermo and Parma, Lupatelli had been facing the prospect of a season in limbo.

But now the Perugia native will compete with youngsters Simone Aresti and Federico Marchetti for the Isolani's No 1 shirt.

The deal is expected to be made official within the next 24 hours when Lupatelli puts pen to paper at the Stadio Sant'Elia.
