Hong Kong Store Confirmed, Circular Design
September 15th, 2009
The city of Hong Kong is the most obvious omission among Apple’s retail initiative, as the city is at top of international retailing, technology and tourism. But as with every other city, finding the perfect location has been difficult. The city is divided into two major regions separated by a harbor, and within those regions there are dozens of potential districts, each with its own personality. But sources say a finalist has now been chosen–somewhere–and that it features a 40-foot tall, circular entrance, possibly made of glass and surrounded by a narrow moat of water. Once inside, visitors will descend into an underground store, much like the existing Fifth Avenue (NYC) store. Construction on the store could begin soon, and a grand opening could be held in 2010. |
