The Biancocelsti are currently the league leaders and there is a very real belief that a Scudetto win is on the cards this year.
Mauro Zarate has hit six goals in five games for his side as they establish themselves as the surprise package this term.
However, not everyone agrees that the Aquilotti are ready to spread their wings and fly towards the Tricolore.
Mourinho failed to mention Lazio as title challengers when he was asked by the media and this has not gone down well with Lotito.
"Mourinho should know that football is changing," Lotito told La Domenica Sportiva.
"Economic potential does not count for much these days but the moral values as well as the spirit and sacrifice of the group does and they can lead to important results.
"I am aware that Mourinho considers Lazio as a team who are not ready to reach a certain range."
Lotito then spoke of Argentine hit-man Zarate and he has scoffed at the critics who laughed when he signed him.
"Many people thought I was crazy when I signed him in the summer but look now," added the chief.
The Biancocelsti have taken everyone by surprise this term and they look a completely different side to the one which underachieved last season.
