According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, Newcastle United manager Alan Shearer will drop defender Fabricio Coloccini for the upcoming away game at Stoke City on Saturday.
The Argentina international, who joined the Magpies from Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna for €11.3 million (￡10.3m) last summer, has featured in all of the Toon's matches to date this season.
However, it was the 27-year-old's error that led to Chelsea's opening goal at St. James' Park at the weekend and that seems to have cost him a place in Newcastle's starting XI. This is likely to work on the assumption that Steven Taylor and Sebastien Bassong are deemed fit enough to play against the Potters.
"We might have one or two players back, which would give us options," Shearer is quoted as saying.
"We all know what we're going to face at Stoke; it'll be one hell of a battle, but we're in one hell of a battle anyway. We're hopeful Bassong and Taylor will both be available." |
