SHEFFIELD UNITED have suspended keeper Paddy Kenny after he failed a drugs test.
Kenny is now facing a possible ban after a urine sample he provided tested positive for the stimulant ephedrine.
He gave the sample following a play-off semi-final match against Preston in May.
A Blades spokesman said: "We can confirm that Paddy Kenny has been suspended by the Club.
"This is an ongoing, confidential matter and as such we are unable to comment further."
Irish international Kenny will now be subject to a disciplinary inquiry by the Football Association.
The Blades eventually lost to Burnley in the Championship play-off final, but Kenny's suspension could leave the door open for a compensation claim from beaten semi-finalists Preston.
Kenny now faces a range of possible sanctions from a reprimand up to a two-year ban.
Ephedrine is on the list of the World Anti-Doping Agency's specified substances but is contained in some cold cures.
A positive test does not carry the usual automatic two-year suspension.
Since 2007 however, four rugby players - two from rugby union and two from rugby league - have all been served with two-year bans after testing positive for ephedrine.
In three of those cases, the players involved took ephedrine tablets before a match, while in the fourth case the source of the stimulant was unclear.
In order to minimise his punishment, Kenny will have to attempt to prove that he did not take the drug in order to enhance his performance.
He will also have to show it came in the form of an over-the-counter cough mixture or similar cold cure.
Blanc admitted his surprise that a club of United's stature had come in for Obertan and added that the youngster needed to improve in a number of areas if he is to be a success at the Theatre of Dreams.
"I was surprised too, but it is an unexpected chance for him to play with one of the best clubs in the world," he told Europe1.
"Manchester United have been tracking him for a long time. They certainly hope to advance him, something that Bordeaux and Lorient have failed to do.
"He has the potential, but he must overcome psychological and mental challenges so he can express his true value."
