Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has received a death threat from Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich, London's High Court heard.
The revelation came during a libel case brought by Melvyn Levi against Mr Bates.
MrLevi is suing for damages over three articles written by Mr Bates inmatchday programmes and in a letter sent to fans in 2006 and 2007.
The court was told Mr Abramovich had threatened to shoot Mr Bates. Mr Bates was the Chelsea chairman who sold the London club to Russianbillionaire Mr Abramovich.
The court also heard Mr Bates also tried to sell Leeds United for £51m to a former vice chairman of Everton Football Club. The sale, proposed inearly 2007, also included providing Mr Bates with four directors' boxtickets and access to the chairman's suite if it went through.
But Chris Greg, once vice chairman at the Merseyside club, would only offer£40m on behalf of a consortium interested in buying Leeds and the deal never went through.
